Analyze and Aggregate Assessment Data

In Head Start programs across the nation, classroom and home-based educators eagerly build relationships with children that help them identify individual strengths and needs. When this information is collected in the DRDP, educators can easily use that data to adjust teaching strategies and design learning experiences.

Head Start program managers intentionally plan for the collection and analysis of program-wide data. When using the DRDP, managers can efficiently monitor, respond to, plan, and report on the program’s outcomes for children.

Consider these data analysis strategies for your agency!

Assessment-Driven Instruction – Educators

  1. Assessment-Driven Instruction – Educators
  2. Rate measures in the DRDP as you enter observations.
    • Run report #5040-Group Detail Report each time you lesson plan.
    • Select Detail in the report’s Report Type filter
    • Select both Finalized and Not Finalized data in the report’s Completion Status filter
  3. Analyze the data and identify the need for:
    • Large Group Activities: Which measures show the majority of children not progressing in a specific measure?
    • Small Group Activities: Where is there a cluster of children not progressing in a specific measure?
    • Individualizations: Are there specific measures where only a few children are not progressing?
  4. Adjust ratings when additional observations are entered and support the need for a different rating.

Data-Informed Decision Making – Program Managers

  1. Run report #5041-Group Domain Report at the end of each Assessment Period.
    • Select from the 11 categories in the report’s Subgroup filter (E.g., age, gender)
    • Select at least 1 form of data from the report’s Optional Data filter
  2. Aggregate and Analyze the data to identify potential:
    • Progress toward program goals
    • Self-assessment topics
    • Program training needs
    • Family supports
    • Budgetary needs
