Bright Spots Winner: Megan Severson

Supervisor, Kid’s Corp Inc. (KCI)

Megan Severson and Maricela Alejandro joined KCI just over a year ago. During onboarding, Megan met Maricela, and later discovered she’d be her new supervisor. Since then, Megan has provided invaluable support to her staff and implemented changes that have improved how the agency manages enrollment. She made such an impression that Maricela couldn’t resist nominating her as a Bright Spot. Here’s how Megan made a lasting impact on Maricela and their entire agency.

One of Maricela’s first tasks with the agency involved a complex enrollment process, heavily dependent on paper. This left Maricela and other staff feeling stressed and overwhelmed. As a leader, Megan gladly came to the rescue. Megan has years of experience with ChildPlus enrollment features, so she knew there were far more efficient ways to navigate the issue. After re-evaluating the agency’s outdated processes, she determined that it was time for the agency to go paperless.

Right away, Megan began to implement KCI’s new “paperless” initiative. And she didn’t stop there. Megan wanted to support her team even more. To ensure nothing slipped through the cracks, she created a custom module in ChildPlus that served as an enrollment checklist and instruction guide.

The new module included detailed instructions that provided clear step-by-step guidance for her staff, including steps to create their own To-Do List view. Megan didn’t just help a new peer in need, she helped the entire agency, all while managing a stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis. Her strength, mission, and determination are exceptional qualities, and her character is certainly worth shining a light on. Megan Severson, we agree with Maricela – you are truly a Bright Spot in our ChildPlus community.
